GRAW 2 – mapping now!
Laying the foundation for GRAW 2 Maps now. Looking for mappers to pull together.
With GRAW 2 laying in the distance mappers coming out of
the woodwork the efforts here are to get a group of dedicated professional map makers
to discuss projects to make maps in packs of 3 to be released monthly. Map Makers are needed. This is not recruiting or anything like
that. Just trying to hook up with folks
and work on projects to make our work less, but overall results great!
Communication is the key.
This was done for NovaLogic’s Joint Operations Typhoon
Rising and projects are still active.
Many of the series produced over a year ago are still hosted today. What we did was gather 6 of the best-of-the
best map makers who don’t mind spending a month or so on a map working with
others to produce a map pack which brings a strong and fresh style of gameplay
for all gametypes. Being expected to
make just 1 map each month or so allows you to focus talents on the project as
a whole. Because each map will have
similarities in map design we will all feel we had our hands in each map.
I (Tom_Anger, a.k.a. SCE_FATMAN) am going to help get this
going so the 1st step is to voice this effort on a universal forum
(ghostrecon.net) and get around 6 Excellent Map Makers to come forward. If you know of a mapmaker please make
him/her known by nominating them.
Sometimes it is the players who know the mapmakers and they can nominate
folks interested in being a part of this.
The goal is to get 12 maps in 6-9 months once GRAW 2 comes out and a map
editor is available. Maps will be
produced in 3’s and deadlines will be set with expectations that some may go a
bit past the deadline based on family life and other circumstances. I am not doing this for me. Our gatherings to discuss ideas will be made
by us all.
The 2nd step is to setup a date and time to get
together on a voice-com like Teamspeak to discuss map specifications,
expectations, and themes. Forum
communication will again help to coordinate that the meetings. During the group discussion topics like
default design will be discussed meaning each map made has to have specific
likeness such as debris, barrel placement, etc. An example of design defaults - how dumpsters should look when
placed. Just by its self is not good
enough. They will need debris on the
ground around them, some trash, some stone, etc. Barrel placement is obvious, however, barrel grouping by default
would be to set them up in 5’s, three straight, 2 off centered to give a
realistic setup. These default designs
will be discussed by the group and that is where we will make the decisions on
what designs to use for each map. With
default designs as part of the maps, we can focus on other design structures to
make the maps for the purpose of the overall theme.
The mappers needed are:
·
3 individuals to make Multiplayer Maps for all associated
game types. The first 1 to 2 months
will be to make just 3 maps with a theme for the purpose. Not 3 maps per person. 1 person has 2 months to make 1 map in all
multiplayer game types. You can make
other maps as well, but this would be the primary requirement if you want to be
a part of this.
·
3 individuals to take the 1st set of maps and
structure them for coop game play. This
means the coop map makers will have a little time to get accustom to the editor
if need be. Coop mapmakers are very
important and will have their hands in the overall map design as the
Multiplayer Map makers construct the maps.
They will help organize the efforts as well at times asking for specific
design items, screenshots as the maps are in construction, etc. They will be almost helping coordinate the
mapping efforts.
Multiplayer maps will have to be constructed so that ‘half-to-max’ capacity will enjoy the game play. In other words if the maximum players for servers are 32 we need to make sure we can support fun playability for 16 up to 32 players. Maps cannot be too large, however, when the coop map makers take the maps over they will be able to tailor the maps, make them larger, fix any issues, etc to bring forth the best single player maps out there.
PLEASE, only designers who know the map editor top to bottom and no beginners. Nothing personal, but this is to take well seasoned mappers and make something big out of the talent. There will also be an effort to get modders involved to make objects for the game so that will be a research development project. If you know of anyone then that will be on another day…
